Simplified SPC

Course Description: The Simplified SPC course is intended for operators, quality managers, engineers, and technicians who are in a position to identify the need for, use, and interpret SPC charts and who are interested in promoting the use of SPC in their organizations. Hands-on activities will be used to demonstrate real problems and solutions.

Students will learn to:

• Determine when, where, and why SPC tools should be used.
• Distinguish between common cause and special cause variation.
• Create, maintain, and interpret Shewhart SPC charts for attribute and variable data.
• Distinguish between control and tolerance limits.
• Calculate and interpret process capability statistics.
  

Prerequisites: Students are expected to have basic knowledge of the mathematical operations required to calculate simple statistics and control chart limits.

Contact Hours: Twelve (12), usually in three four-hour sessions.
